QUEENSBURY, New York (March 19, 2024) — SUNY Adirondack Foundation gratefully accepted a donation March 6 from 100 Women Who Care Northeast Chapter (100WWCNE).
The nonprofit organization donated $6,150 to the Foundation’s College in the High School tuition reduction program, which helps high school students pay for college-level coursework offered in their schools. Fifty percent, an additional $3,075, will be matched by a foundation associated with 100WWCNE, and added to the total.
"Our group chose SUNY Adirondack Foundation’s College in the High School Tuition Reduction Program to assist local students achieve their academic pursuits," said Cheryl Hahn, a founding member of 100WWCNE. "So many families are struggling just to make ends meet these days. For many, the added cost of tuition is just not possible. This donation will help relieve some of that pressure as these young students begin their educational journeys."
100WWCNE was formed in 2020 by Beth Purdy, Hahn, Lori O'Neil and Jeanne Rizzo. The group brings women together four times per year for a one-hour meeting to learn about and select a local nonprofit organization to receive a donation from the group, as each member provides $100. Members can nominate a nonprofit organization in Warren, Washington or Saratoga counties. Three nominations are chosen at random, then the nominating member provides an overview of the organization and how it would use the money if chosen. The group votes and the organization that receives the most votes is given the group’s collective donation.
"We are honored to receive this incredibly generous donation from 100 Women Who Care," said Rachael Hunsinger Patten, chief advancement officer and executive director of SUNY Adirondack Foundation. "The data on student success when students get a head start on college while they are still enrolled in their high schools is compelling. Thanks to 100 Women Who Care, low- to moderate-income families will get a hand-up to access our College in the High School program. This program is good for students, their families and our entire region."
