QUEENSBURY, New York (April 13, 2026) — You won’t see Mary Pilot in SUNY Adirondack Theater Club’s upcoming production of “The Addams Family: The Musical Comedy,” but as director of the show, she will be celebrating in the wings when the curtain closes.

“When you hear that final song together, it’s not characters anymore, you’re all together — the last moment of all those months of preparation and stress and struggle — and that’s one of the best feelings ever,” said Pilot, a Hoosick Falls native majoring in Broadcast Media Production at SUNY Adirondack.

“The Addams Family Musical” will be staged at 7 p.m. Friday, April 24, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the college theater in Adirondack Hall.

“Theater has a unique way of bringing people together,” said Harley Bradley, assistant director of Student Life and advisor of the Theater Club. “Our students have poured so much energy, creativity and heart into this production. It’s funny, a little bit spooky and meaningful — and I think audiences will connect with its message about family, acceptance and celebrating what makes us different.”

Pilot left a love of all things theatrical — including hopes of being a filmmaker — behind after high school, and enrolled at SUNY Adirondack to study psychology. “I gave up those dreams because everyone said they weren’t realistic,” she admitted.

But when she was cast in the Theater Club’s “Ride the Cyclone” in 2024, she reconsidered. “Being onstage again and having so much fun with people who share similar interests made me realize I’m so much happier doing that than anything else,” she said.

She switched her major to Broadcast Media Production, where she has learned about audio and video editing and mixing, lighting and more. “A lot of the tech skills transfer to theater,” she said, explaining her decision to take the lead as director of the show.

Pilot will graduate in May and pursue her dream of being a filmmaker. She has a small production company and is working on three scripts she plans to make into movies. “I can do a lot in the film world,” she said.

Tickets for “The Addams Family Musical” are free for students; $10 for all others, and are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Student Life Office in the Student Center, 640 Bay Road.
