Pell grants

Some students who file a FAFSA are automatically awarded Pell grants. The federal government determines financial eligibility for the award and calculates award amount based on family income. Students in families making less than 175 percent and single parents making less than 225 percent of the federal poverty level will receive a maximum Federal Pell Grant award. 

Minimum Pell grants are guaranteed to students from households who earn less than 275 percent, 325 percent, 350 percent or 400 percent of the poverty level, depending on household structure. Pell awards between the maximum and minimum amounts will be determined by the Student Aid Index (SAI).

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity grants (SEOG)

This federal grant is awarded to eligible full- and part-time students. Priority is given to students who are Pell Grant eligible and who demonstrate the most financial need, based on FAFSA. 

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) grants

New York state residents who attend college full time are eligible for TAP grants, based on FAFSA and TAP applications. Family New York state net taxable income cannot exceed $125,000 for dependent students, $60,000 for married students with no dependents and $30,000 for independent single students with no dependents.

New York State Aid for Part Time Study (APTS) grants

Part-time residents of New York state are eligible for TAP grants, based on income eligibility.
