Professional Licensure Disclosures

New York State prides itself in the high quality of its licensed and certified professionals.  For the protection of its citizens, each license and/or certificate has requirements that individuals
must meet in order to be licensed or certified in New York State. SUNY’s academic programs leading to licensure or certification are carefully designed to meet and exceed these State requirements. This is a role SUNY plays in protecting the public.

Effective July 1, 2024, federal regulation requires institutions of higher education to make a determination whether a Title IV eligible academic program that leads to professional licensure or certification meets the educational requirements for licensure/certification in the U.S. State where the institution is located and the U.S. States where “distance education” students are located at the time of initial enrollment in the program, as well as U.S. States where the program is advertised as meeting such requirements, and if applicable, the U.S. State where students attest they intend to be licensed/certified.

Distance education student, for this regulation, is defined as a student who takes at least one program course, in any discipline, via distance education in their first term of enrollment in an academic program that leads to professional licensure or certification. Distance education is provided in several formats as listed in https://catalog.sunyacc.edu/courseinstructionalmode.

The below listed programs at SUNY Adirondack are registered by the New York State Education Department and thus meets the educational requirements for licensure/certification for New York State.

Through a good faith effort, and for the purpose of complying with the federal regulation, we
have determined that the below listed program at SUNY Adirondack meets the educational
requirements for licensure/certification in the following U.S. State(s):

Nursing A.A.S Maryland https://mbon.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspx

However, it is important to note that SUNY Adirondack is not the licensure/certification
authority in this U.S. State and cannot assess whether an individual candidate will be issued a
license/certificate in this state and instead it is incumbent on each individual
candidate to contact the licensure/certification authority in the applicable U.S. State for
any further guidance on the requirements for licensure/certification requirements and
application processes.

Per federal regulations if a determination is anything other than ‘does meet,’ the programs
cannot enroll students located in that state. SUNY Adirondack has not made this determination
for any state listed below. [NOTE: The college may not advertise a program as meeting the
requirements of that state.]

Exception Requests

There is an exception that allows for distance education students to enroll if they sign an
attestation that they intend to seek licensure/certification and employment in a specific ‘does
meet’ state. Students seeking an exception shall identify the specific State they intend to seek
licensure/certification in and the college will evaluate the request. Students shall contact the
Office of Registration and Records for further information

Exception Requests Deadlines

Professional Licensure or Certification exemption requests shall be submitted prior to the start
of classes in a given semester. A formal decision will be sent to the student no later than 5-10
business days after the exemption request has been filed, through the student campus email
system.

Student Change of Address

If a student changes their physical address to another state during their enrollment, the student
is required to formally notify the college (https://catalog.sunyacc.edu/regulations/changeaddress). Once the college
has been notified of this change in address, it will make a determination about whether a
student’s program meets their new state’s licensure/certification requirements and
information the student within 14 calendar days of making the determination.
